My old phone met an untimely death, so I just picked up a new phone. Samsung calls it the SCH-u740, Verizon calls it the Alias. Neat design.
Thankfully Verizon was able to data transfer all of my pictures and contacts onto my new phone.

Off to California and Las Vegas. No computer, e-mail, or World of Warcraft until Sunday night when I return.  Comments will be closed until then as well.
Fun April for me. Going to visit a friend in Alabama this weekend. Next weekend I'm flying home for my Grandpa's 85th birthday and spending the weekend up north. Skip a week, and then I'm flying out to California with a friend to go to a concert and hang out for a bunch of days. And the week after that my immediate family is coming to visit me in Tennessee. So, I have an action-packed April
We worked a few hours over this past weekend so we could have some quick turnaround on the COO's feedback on a demo of some software we plan to roll out next month. So, we're taking a half day today and our boss is taking us to see V for Vendetta!
It's so great to be producing software that goes to actual users. Rather than merely producing demo after fraudulent demo of code that will likely never see the light of day in a working system used by actual people (a situation that often arises in the government space, where contractors continue to get money through pork contracts despite never producing anything of actual value), I get to write code for a company that has real products/services (and is subject to the free market), and my code will have an impact on the company's bottom line. It feels good!
Update: Heh, as John Gruber writes: "real software ships". That's going in my quotes.

I played Dance Dance Revolution for the first time ever today. Takes a bit to get into it, but once you get the hang of it... man is that a fun game!

(Material) things I miss about NJ:
- 24 hour diners where you can get almost anything you want
- Bagel shops
- Coffee shops (Starbucks doesn't count!) (with good live music, real tea, couches, and all kinds of custom drinks)
- Good pizza
- Good delis
- I was going to say good sushi, but I've managed to find some decent places around here
- Good hiking!! Ramapo Reservation and Harriman State Park! At Harriman, drinkable running water. Well, I drank it anyway. Oh, and one time I came back after hiking late at Ramapo and had enormous bear prints on the hood of my car!
- NYC counts, even though we didn't go into the city all that much. It was nice to have it close by.

I just today finished the last bits of administrivia needed to complete my move to the Volunteer State. I just got my car inspected and registered, and got my license plate (would be plates, but they only require a back plate here). I got the new pretty green one (new as of this month... I'm glad I waited!) instead of the old icky one.
I also registered to vote and relinquished my voting rights in NJ. I got my driver's license back in July, so that's pretty much everything. I guess I still have to get new tags for my dog, and I still do want to get a concealed carry permit
I'm back in Tennessee. I move south and drive smack into a snowstorm. How weird is that? ("He killed me with a sword. How weird is that?")

Batman Begins was surprisingly good. Recommended if you haven't seen it. I bought the DVD when I bought my laptop so I'd have something fun to watch on it. Watched it in pieces (even while on the bus in New Brunswick) and finally just finished it. Oh, and Gary Oldman rules, as does Michael Caine. Great music too.
