"via" links

Just noticed at Earl's site ~ he uses a tilde to represent "via" links. I like it.

Notes: 1. He only puts it at the end of a paragraph. Not sure whether I'd do the same. 2. It looks ugly with underlined links. I should create a via link style that's not underlined.

Yahoo! Placemaker is a freely available geoparsing Web service. It helps developers make their applications location-aware by identifying places in unstructured and atomic content – feeds, web pages, news, status updates – and returning geographic metadata for geographic indexing and markup.

Sounds like a product some people I know put out, but it's free and probably works better... or, actually works period.

It turns out all their source geographic data is freely available for download (via).
