Canadians want to scrap gun registration

Glenn Renyolds on the Canadians wanting to scrap gun registration:

GUN REGISTRATION: Such a bad idea that even the Canadians are scrapping it. "One former Mountie called the registry 'totally useless' because criminals don't register their guns." Too bad they didn't figure that out a few billion dollars ago, but at least it's an object lesson for the United States.

I don't see how Godwin's law applies here, but you know he was making a reference to V for Vendetta?

It's not quite a perfect case seeing as he brought up fascists in general rather than the Nazis, but Godwin's law applied because of Hannibal equated them. I know it was a V for Vendetta reference, but it's still in bad taste.

Given that the revocation of individuals' firearms is a tactic universally used by fascist governments to oppress their people, I'm don't think his equation was all that out of place.
