Actually, Edoc, one of the great things about my new job is that here I have the potential to help my country and the war much more than I would as a foot soldier.

Keith: The military is badly in need of new recruits. In terms of affirming committment to a cause, there's no stronger statement than casting your lot with those who put their lives on the line for this country. Note that there's no guarrantee that you would see combat; I don't know the exact figures, but only part of the military presence in Iraq are combat forces. If you feel strongly about supporting the war, please give it careful consideration. Future generations may ask if you heeded the call.
So what about me? I don't fit the age or health requirements, and perhaps more importantly, I don't support the commander-in-chief's policy -- at all.

I make a major move and get a great new job... no "What's the job Keith?", or "Congrats on moving to Nashville!". Instead, I get a backhanded charge of hypocrisy. Go away.

Sorry for being rude -- I thought you'd be receptive to this discussion, not evasive. As a patriot and vocal supporter of the policy, I've no doubt that you've put a lot of thought toward this. But it's a personal matter and I respect your desire to keep it that way.
Congrats on the move, son. Ok, I'll bite: What's your new job?

I gotta admit, he's a very eloquent troll, at least.
About the IM you sent: I'll be done with it soon. Amusingly, in order to get my contact email changed, I have to submit the change request in writing and wait for them to process it by hand. I'm in the waiting period. You would think they'd automate it by now, heh. After that I can do what we talked about.

You may be excited about your new job, but I'm guessing that it's not really furthering the mission in Iraq.
Because you and other young able citizens have (so far) chosen not to serve in Iraq, there is a chance that soldiers will be kept there by stop-loss and other measures. As a result, some of these soldiers who have served this country and should have returned to their families may be killed or wounded. It's awful to say that, and it disturbs me to even write it, Keith, but that is the reality we are facing.
I don't normally read Steve Gulliard blog, but I think he lays it down straight in this post: http://stevegilliard.blogspot.com/2005/06/honest-conversation.html
Either consider enlisting and urge like-minded readers to do so, or please reconsider your position on Iraq. If you support our troops and policy, you shouldn't wait a few more months longer to evaluate if the insurgency is in its last throes; you should be in boot camp getting ready to relieve brave men and women who have done their tours honorably.

My comments are not meant as a personal attack. I'm genuinely interested in the status of your convictions, and if your position on the war has changed.
If your decision not to enlist is too private for you to share in this forum, then please say so.
