I wouldn't find that hard to believe at all. I'm sure there are are things in CPAN that you can't get in Java, and Java code somewhere that you can't find in CPAN. I forget who it was who I remember pointing this out, but Java tends to have better support for big corporate standard-type things, like SOAP and CORBA and stuff.

Yeah, CPAN is more the realm of hackers. There's some really cool and useful stuff in there. I have no idea how you might go about interfacing CPAN modules with Java - maybe via command line system calls (yuck), or maybe somebody wrote a Java module to do just that.

Well, there's always Inline::Java.
At least, for Perl->Java. For Java->Perl I'm not sure.
By the way, regarding our previous discussion, see this account from someone who interviewed at Google. It gives me the impression that Google uses Python even more heavily than I thought.

Yeah, I have heard that Google uses Python quite a bit. I think I even remember seeing some web pages on their site with ".py" suffixes. I've also noticed that several seasoned hackers seem to prefer Python (well, except <a href="http://www.livejournal.com/users/jwz/257602.html?thread=2035266">jwz</a>).

Wow, I don't think there's a single reason he gives that I really care about. One-line hello world programs? Um, okee...
