I would strongly suggest using either brand, since Plextor's internals are literally industry standard.
I, personally, paid the premium for the Plextor drive, and it's built like a freaking tank. Of course, if you want a more "consumer grade" product (or rather, the "consumer grade" price tag), I strongly support Pioneer's offerings. They won't let you down, either.
