What's probably the most important part of the Patriot Act

John at Power Line reminds us of the importance of what's probably the most important provision in the Patriot Act. How Jamie Gorelick was on the 9/11 Commission and not called to testify is beyond my comprehension.

Also, John's been doing a lot of writing on the NSA spying brouhaha, including this piece, that's worth checking out.

I think both sides in this debate are right, and wrong. THe Dems are willing to extend it, they just want some of the non-wall-communicaiton things changes to keep things in check with people rights. I don't think they are advocating getting rid of the parts that allows departments to interoperate better.

At the same time, why won't the Repubs take a short term renewal if they are so worried about it expiring all together.

Seems like both sides are wasting time arguing rather than keeping things afloat AND preserving peoples rights.

Looks like that just happened.

Yeah, I just saw that. Good for them and us. That's what the process should be for this thing. Let it ride until all paries agree. The people who want change will get it, and the people who don't want it to just stop Jan 1 get their way too.
