New Pope

Bill Hobbs: Meet the new Pope, via, via:

Eternal truth is eternal truth. If Pope Benedict XVI stands up for it, and stays committed to it, the world will be better off. The last thing the world needs is a post-modern pope who believes the church should change its teaching based on public opinion polls.

But, it looks like he's a hard liner for Church Tradition, so it's unlikely they'll reform their celibate priest situation. I think letting priests be married (heck, requiring them to be as the Bible's pretty clear about) would do a lot for the health of the Church. Of course, quitting all the idolatry and Mary worship would be good too, but that seems to be pretty central to Catholic practice.

Of course, as Bill points out, the Papal system itself is without Biblical warrant. Sigh.

Quitting all the idolatry? What idolatry is this? Specifics?

I'm not Catholic, but lately I've been thinking that what you call the "Mary worship" is much healthier and seems to me to be closer to Bible doctrine regarding Mary than the disrespectful way in which sometimes us protestants speak of her.

If we were to be in front of Mary would we say as Elizabeth said "And from where is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?"

The problem with us protestants is that we are as "traditionalist" as the Roman Catholics. We are blind to our own faults many times. Mary is considered in the Bible "The mother of my Lord." Elizabeth felt unworthy of being in her presence, and the bible states that she said this after being "filled with the Holy Spirit." (Luke 1:41)

Maybe we should all just be a little more easy going with our brothers and sisters of other Christian traditions. After all, the protestant church is far from being perfect.

As for the priest having a family. It's about time they change that. I think it's one of the most urgent things they should consider. I agree with you. It will heal the Church a lot. And when I say the Church, I mean the Universal Church. The whole body of believers and followers of Jesus spread throughout the world.
