  1. PoliPundit: Kerry Insults More Than Bush And Cheney

  2. Dave Kopel on Guns, Terrorism & Teachers on National Review Online

Islamist terrorists in Beslan, Russia, are currently holding hundreds of children hostage, threatening to execute them. No one knows how this horrible situation will end; but we do know that it could have been prevented. Decades ago, Israel adopted a policy that swiftly ended terrorist attacks against schools. Earlier this year, Thailand adopted a similar approach. It is politically incorrect, but it does have the advantage of saving the lives of children and teachers. The policy? Encourage teachers to carry firearms.

He was writing a couple of days ago. Of course, since then the tragic events have made his suggestion seem even wiser.

The biggest thing Bush *didn't* mention at his convention

The biggest thing Bush didn't do at his convention is make any mention of trying to stop illegal immigration. How can you possibly claim to want to defend this country, but leave our borders wide open? Argh!

Of course Kerry made no mention of it either, but A. I don't expect him to do a good job at defending the country anyway, and B. he's not going to get elected so it doesn't really matter. What matters is that Bush isn't going to do anything to try to protect our borders.

Newsweek Poll: "Bush/Cheney Lead Kerry/Edwards 54 to 43 Percent"!

Newsweek Poll: Bush/Cheney Lead Kerry/Edwards 54 to 43 Percent. It looks like that Time poll wasn't a fluke, particularly since Newsweek polls lean Democrat. Via PoliPundit. Update: Comments at InstaPundit.

Update: Here's another huge "bounce". This one's a little different. It doesn't ask voters whether they're going to vote for Bush, but whether they think Bush will win.

VERONA, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 3, 2004--The number of Americans who think George W. Bush will be re-elected in November has suddenly jumped 10 to 20 points in dozens of cities around the country, according to SurveyUSA tracking polls conducted before, during and after the Democratic and Republican National Conventions.

SurveyUSA has been asking respondents not who they will vote for, but rather: who they think will win the presidential election in November. This question is more sensitive to changes in sentiment, and is designed to capture "momentum" swings more precisely than preference questions asked of likely voters. Tracking polls released today, 9/3/04, the day after the Republican National Convention ended, show sizeable swings in the public consciousness.

Emphasis mine. Interesting poll. Via PoliPundit.

The priorites of the media

Some of the commenters at LGF make a good point. We just had a massive slaughter in Russia, possibly somewhere around twice as bad in loss of life as the Madrid train bombings, yet the media is only covering a freaking hurricane. I guess it's easier to cover a hurricane in Florida (plus, you can get cool live footage) than it is to do actual reporting on something that happened on the other side of the world? The media is so damn lazy, and has their priorities screwed up.

Update: Ooh, Fox News is mentioning it. And they're pointing out that they're Muslim terrorists who often cooperate with Al Qaeda. My dad, who's not totally clueless about what's going on, and who has CNN as his browser home page, wasn't even aware that the "Chechen rebels" the media always refers to are Muslim terrorists.

And... now back to the hurricane.

Update: Hey, good for Fox News. More coverage of it. Other stations? Still the hurricane.

  8. Gregory at American RealPolitik weighs in on Kerry's stated approach to Iran (which, if you're not aware, is to give them nuclear fuel under the condition that they'll give us their nuclear waste), and calls it Complete Insanity. This can't be repeated enough, which is why I've blogged about it three times. As Gregory puts it: "You have to be out of your god damned mind to even suggest that anyone agreeing to such a deal has even one shred of sanity. I mean, Kerry's policies generally strike me as reckless and reactionary but this is just simply irrational and practically insane."

  9. Donald Sensing points out that Kerry is flip-flopping on himself:

"From "bring it on" to "I won't have it" in less than two weeks. Why should I be assured that he will stand up for America as president when he so quickly ducked from a fight he asked for in the first place? Seriously, why?"

    That's a damn good point.
