  1. The Daily WTF: Can you think of a worse solution than this?. Possibly the most horrible stored procedure I've ever seen.

Also, what kind of asshole writes code like this, and what kind of person pays him to do it!?

  2. Glenn Reynolds: John Forbes Dukakis. "One question for voters -- among many, many others that we're apparently not supposed to be asking -- is this: If Kerry can't run a campaign, how can he run the Presidency?"

  3. TDB "is a Trivial Database. In concept, it is very much like GDBM, and BSD's DB except that it allows multiple simultaneous writers and uses locking internally to keep writers from trampling on each other. TDB is also extremely small." Via Steve

  4. I just saw a commercial for The Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation on TV. "Mesothelioma is a fatal cancer caused by exposure to asbestos. It kills thousands of Americans each year. The collapse of the World Trade Center released over 400 tons of asbestos into the air. Now this cancer threatens the lives of the many rescue workers and residents who were exposed. Support from concerned people like you will make a difference. MARF is the national non-profit research foundation committed to curing this disease."

  7. Glenn Reynolds relays some fantastic poll results for Bush from Time. Charles links to a column from VDH on what's going to happen (to read) when the Democrats lose in November.

Kerry's post-convention speech

lgf: Kerry Sags, Rants Tiredly. Seems about right to me. After a week full of susbtantial charges brought against Kerry during the convention, Kerry went on and defended himself by referring to Cheney's deferments and Kerry's tours in Vietnam. I couldn't believe that after all that he was responding by focusing on his Vietnam service. I think his speech was ultimately very destructive for him and must have rang hollow for all but his most partisan supporters.

Update: Good commentary at Power Line.

Update: "Doesn't Kerry have advisers to tell him not to give poorly prepared speeches that project desperation?" Heh (via IP)

Update: "What a momentous referendum November 2 will be." Indeed (via the same IP post as immediately above).

Update: I thought right away while watching Kerry's speech that it was a disaster for him. PoliPundit calls Kerry's strategy lunacy, and reminds me of Kerry's line, "RNC means Really Not Compassionate". Lame!

News on the economy

Daschle v. Thune: Economy. Whoa! I didn't know we added 144,000 jobs in August and that the unemployment rate dropped to 5.4 percent! It's so silly for Democrats to be talking negatively about the economy, because the economy is so much better now than when they were working for Clinton's reelection.

Update: Jayson at PoliPundit has more numbers that show that the economy is far better than the media report:

Hmm. I don't think the Associated Press, the New York Times, MSNBC, or Reuters, want to run the following headline: "Economy generates nearly 4 million net jobs under George W. Bush." So, therefore, it would appear that the establishment survey is the one with which the liberal media will continue to be preoccupied.

  1. Yahoo! News - Cup of urine a day keeps ailments at bay. Man, I'd honestly be interested to try this, but it's just too gross.
