Есть Два Цвета: Черный И Белый, А Есть Оттенки, Которых Больше.

Ned relayed the following quote:

Есть Два Цвета: Черный И Белый, А Есть Оттенки, Которых Больше.

which he took based on a poor Babelfish translation to mean something like "Between black and white there are many shades". I think it's funny that when the person he got the quote from commented in response he revealed the quote to have the opposite meaning Ned thought it intended:

The more correct translation of the motto is something like 'There are two colors: black and white. Others are just shades'.

The even more correct translation is: 'There are two colors: black and white. But there more different shades.'.

Notes:

a) the Russian conjunction 'А' here has the contraposition meaning too, so using 'but' looks more correct

b) there is no Russian word for 'different' in that motto, but it's meaning is such meaning in this motto.

c) 'tint' or 'hue' is also usable instead of 'shades'. This motto is a part of song, and the next strophe of the song 'Children of Сommunicating Сourtyards' has could be translated like 'We are the children of communicating courtyards, we will find our's color ourselves.'

I'm sorry if my English is not well. But, at least, I know the meaning of that motto well enough, so I've tried to clarify.
