Acrobat Reader stupidly re-renders each page every time you scroll. Normal page rendering software such as browsers render sections of web pages and buffer them so that you can scroll quickly. That's why scrolling in a browser doesn't make the page flash all the time like it does in Acrobat Reader.
You'd think Adobe would know better, especially after 6 versions.
