I think one of the hallmarks of real evil is that the people who partake in it often think they're doing good. I'm not talking about ordinary criminal stuff; I don't believe the common thief thinks he's doing the world good. I'm talking about the stuff ideologies are made of. Stuff like Socialism, Communism, Nazism, etc.
The reason I'm bringing this up is because of a great line at the end of the most recent episode of Smallville. If you didn't see the episode you won't know what I'm talking about, unfortunately, and I'm not sure how to explain it well enough. A similar theme has run through Tru Calling as well, but if you haven't seen it I'm not going to explain that either
Van Helsing: not so good, and ultimately pretty goofy. You know it's bad when you're laughing out loud not at the stuff that's supposed to be funny, but at the parts that are supposed to be, well... something else. Kate Beckinsale, however, is beautiful as usual, and the red-headed vampire-wife was very pretty as well.
Hmm... I guess it's pretty bad that that's about all I have to compliment the movie on. The special effects were cool, but they ultimately fall flat on their own (a point which George Lucas will hopefully have understood for episode III). Oh, and special effects which obviously violate the laws of physics aren't fun to watch, they're insulting.
