Anyone have a secret way they use to quickly find the length of a string? Say you have a web form that only takes n characters, and you want to be a jerk and use up the whole thing exactly. Or, maybe you have a db field of a certain length and you want to measure what kind of stuff fits in it.
Here's what I do. I open up EditPlus, hit ctrl+shift+n for a new HTML document, type:
<script>
document.write("foo".length)
</script>
between the <body> tags, and hit ctrl+b to open up EditPlus's internal browser so I can see it.
(Yes, I know just having <script> is invalid, but it doesn't matter for this)
I'd highly recommend reading A View from the Eye of the Storm, recently added to Steven Den Beste's Essential Library.
I just bought the Dead Like Me DVD boxed set. What's nice is that, unlike my other TV shows I buy the DVD sets for, this show didn't get cancelled, so I have more to look forward to after I finish watching it.
I've been downloading episodes through Bittorrent. I've watched the first four episodes so far, and I liked the show enough to buy the set. The show is pretty strange, but I highly recommended it.
Oh, some things I should mention: "Dead Like Me" was created by Bryan Fuller, who also created Wonderfalls. Also, Mandy Patinkin (you probably know him from The Princess Bride) is in it, and he's awesome.
Update: I've been watching a lot of episodes, and I think it went downhill since the beginning of the series. They dropped some characters (who were awesome) and got a new one, and then one of the characters came back (which is good, because she's awesome). But, the pretty girl from Tru Calling -- Tru's friend, the blond -- was on the show, and I'm trying to get to the episode that has Jewel Staite guest starring. Sorry... too tired to provide names for all the people who came and went.
