Oh what the hell! I've been wondering what happened to Lambda the Ultimate and PHP Everywhere! I didn't notice your site was down because you actually ping so I only have to check it when it updates. But your site has a big "screw you all" message on it, whereas lambda.weblogs and php.weblogs don't even come up at all.

This isn't at all meant as an "I told you so", but this is why I never want to trust other people hosting anything important to me. I'm sorry about what happened. I wonder how he'll give you your site data (probably as invalid XML, heh). It especially sucks for sites like lambda, which have a strong community, that their member lists are lost.

LtU is up again. He seems only to be getting rid of low prestige sites like mine that aren't terribly well-known.

I actually agree with you on hosting. I've been meaning to move off of hmwc for ages, but the thing getting in my way was that the database is was only exported in binary form and you needed a copy of Radio Userland to export it as XML! And only quasi-XML at that!

I've refrained from coming to the conclusion that Dave Winer is a twit, but his-as you put it so well-"screw you" method of doing this has just pushed me over edge.

And if you really want to see the degree of his dickosity, I noted in a comment saying I'd like my site that it would've been nice if he'd given grace time. He deleted it. Dick.

Just after checking PHP Everywhere, and that's up again. As I said, it's prestige sites only. But if Ehud and John have any sense, they'll move as soon as possible.

Um, you don't type em-dashes Really, however, the regex that handles strikeouts shouldn't allow them without surrounding spaces. One day when I fix my parser your comment will be retroactively corrected.

I noticed later last night that lambda.w- and php.w- were up again, but I didn't make note of it here. As I was saying to a friend, the least Winer could do besides giving people their data is set up redirects to everyone's new site locations. Given his "degree of dickosity", it's doubtful he'll do that.

As I told Keith some time ago... my life became significantly happier (seriously, I didn't even realize it at first) once I stopped reading Scripting News and willingly subjecting myself to the ramblings of Dave Winer.

I can't even begin to imagine what it would be like to be hosted by him... may God bless you all!

Good news! I've managed to get the .root file for hmwc, which is nice. Now I have to find a way to extract all the useful stuff from it: it's a binary file.
