keith, you may be looking forward to getting out of school. and within a year of being out, you'll wish you were back in school for the rest of your life

No. I initially intentionally avoided college and worked. Then I lost my job around the time of the dot-com bust and went back to school to get a CS degree. Ever since, I've wished I was back in the working world. School is not fun. It's sort of like work that you never get away from (you have homework, tests to study for, etc.) and that you're not necessarily good at. It's nothing I'll miss.

Something happened to me too.
I started my degree in 1998, and did two years of it. Then I took two years out to work as a developer. Now, whilst I wasn't exactly earning a fortune, knowing that I always had a couple of grand in my bank account gave me some bit of security.
Going back to college was good at first, but then I discovered how bad it was. Being a student is fine, except for the lectures, labs, exams, ... and it goes on and on. Worst was not having any cash and having to live in grotty student houses again. One place didn't even have a shower or heat!
Now I'm finished and looking for work. I've been taking my time looking for a job, mainly as I wanted a bit of a break, and I still had some funds to support myself. I've started looking for a job properly now and I've got some offers, but they're in the US, and I don't feel like moving across the Atlantic just yet and would prefer work here in Ireland. The one nice thing is that I've time to hack away on my site and at last wrote that ColdFusion weblog engine I've been meaning to write for so long.
BTW, here's an interesting article from one of the Volokh Conspiritors.

Heh, I found this funny:
The libertarian minimalist approach of enforcing only the natural rights that define justice...
And those are? Libertarianism is a moral philosophy despite its protestations to the contrary. I'm still probably interested in reading the paper though, so thanks for the link.

Aarrgh! I'm after losing a big off-topic post. Let's see, what did I write...
Oh yes, I mentioned that last Saturday I was feeling bored and slightly frisky, and wrote a blogging engine in ColdFusion, albeit without a computer, just pen and paper. It's up on my site and there's some work still to be done in terms of pinging, syndication, and aesthetics (it's unstyled as yet).
I also noticed a bug in your archives code: take a look at this page and compare the date headings with the entry links under them.

What, did you lose your post because my site crapped out (because I'm working on it)?

Yep, thanks. I know about it, but I haven't gotten to fix it yet because of school. I'm in the process of updating my site to store times in GMT, and I'm revising all my time handling code on my site to make sure it works right. That's on my plate to fix today.

No, just stupidity on my part. I hit preview rather than post.

Oooooooooooh. No wonder why you're such a vociferous Republican. You're a kid.
