This is a neat article about Rumsfeld. But why can't news organizations get their formatting right?
I'm watching a special program on Fox news about how horrible our borders are. One of the fascinating things they mentioned is that smugglers charge $5000 to smuggle Mexicans in, but $50,000 to smuggle other foreigners in, particularly people from the middle east. The person they were interviewing made this very common-sensical statement: "Why do you think someone would pay $50,000 to come to America illegally? To get a job at a 7/11?" Or maybe they're all just rich businessmen who couldn't get a visa...
We haven't been able to win our "war on drugs" or solve our illegal immigration problem... how can we possibly expect to keep ourselves safe from terrorists and WMDs? I've been saying this for a while, but it seems like we're going to need to experience another attack before we get serious. There are dozens (hundreds?) of "sleeper cells" here, and they'll probably attack in concert. The next attack, whenever that happens, will probably make us look fondly back at September 11th.
It's been 2 and a half years. Why haven't we built a huge honking wall across our borders?
