I'm looking for an alternative to Trillian. I've been using Trillian 0.74 something (the free version), but while it works reliably it shows its age. I'd be willing to upgrade to Trillian Pro if they only had a trial version. I refuse to buy it without trying it first.
So, I'm looking for an alternative. I've looked at Jabber, and even gone as far as to try running a Jabber server locally so I could use the AIM and ICQ (the two services I use) transports, but it seems that no freely available server for Windows supports any transports!
I've tried Gaim a bunch of times over different versions, but every time it's a piece of crap, and I often do something to make it crash. I've also tried Miranda and Sim, and both are pretty crappy. Sim just didn't work with AIM, and Miranda has a weird "message-based" rather than "conversation-based" user-interface.
Right now I'm looking at AYTTM and EasyMessage. EB-lite will some day have a Windows version, but they don't yet.
The main feature I require is that the program be able to log conversations. If all else fails, I may just go back to AIM and buy DeadAIM
Update: EasyMessage is nice and quick, but almost featureless and doesn't do logging. Plus, the chat format takes up more space than it should ("Keith says", newline, what I said). Its best feature is its quickness and small size (it could fit on a floppy).
Update: AYTTM is actually pretty good, if ugly (GTK, eew). It does logging, but it doesn't let me control the log location. I wonder if there's an environment variable I can set or something.
