Woo, I'm installing Gentoo! I'm writing this in links using the Gentoo LiveCD
Update (Saturday, 4pm): Everything's done and it should be working, but it's not. I think my problem is with GRUB and isn't anything specific to Linux or Gentoo.
Update (Monday, ¼ to 1am): This post remains at the top of my weblog because I still don't have a working computer. I've gone into details about the problem in the comments on this post. If anyone can offer a hand please do. I could just swap my hard drive cables around and go back to a working Windows machine (I assume), but I actually want to get my Linux installation working, and not having a working computer is good motivation for that.
Update: Aaand, I'm back up. I needed to compile support for my ATA controller card into my kernel. For whatever reason, Windows is now giving me trouble with my video card. In fact, that's the reason Windows was dumping core on me. I'm working with a plain SVGA driver now. More motivation to finish making the switch to Linux.
I had an insane 763 messages waiting for me, the vast majority being spam.
