  1. EmoteMail "EmoteMail is an email client that is augmented to convey aspects of the writing context to the recipient. The client captures facial expressions and typing speed and introduces them as design elements. These contextual cues provide extra information that can help the recipient decode the tone of the mail. Moreover, the contextual information is gathered and automatically embedded as the sender composes the email, allowing an additional channel of expression."

  2. SVK "svk is a decentralized version control system written in Perl. It uses the subversion filesystem but provides some other powerful features."

  7. lgf: Kerry's Arafat Yes-Man. Being a Jew, and being around fellow Jews, it always astounds me that they're often so anti-Bush and pro-Kerry. Bush has been such a great friend to Israel, while it seems clear to me that Kerry won't be, and AFAIK Heinz-Kerry has been a contributor to many Palestinian organizations.

  11. Roger L. Simon: The Big Tent Perplex. "Big Tent indeed - how about humungous and eventually meaningless? This is politics as a quasi religious sport at its purist. ... Maybe it's time for some kind of evaluation of our two party system as we know it." - I've been a fan of Condorcet voting, where you pick your first, second, and third choices when you vote.

  15. Category Theory for Dummies - slides available | Lambda the Ultimate. This presentation has gotten me closer to understanding category theory than other things I've read (which are usually immediately couched in confusing terminology). However, I've gotten the feeling from the outset that I like a category-theoretic way of looking at things much more than I like a set-theoretic way of looking at things... I wonder if there's an analog to Russell's paradox for category theory?

Russia's Flat Tax Miracle

Russia's Flat Tax Miracle:

Remember the saying: “To the victors go the spoils”? It must not be true. We won the Cold War, but Russia gets a flat tax while America is stuck with a Byzantine tax system based on class-warfare ideology... Ironically, the former communists in Moscow now understand supply-side economics, yet liberals in Congress are still relying on the politics of hate-and-envy.
