Speaking as a Mozilla developer, Mozilla is nothing remotely like a reference implementation. It contains far too much code to deal with "real HTML" to be useful as a reference implementation of the standards.
That, and there are significant gaps and bugs in its implementation of various standards.
Point #2 applies to all browsers I am aware of (including Amaya); point #1 applies to all non-Amaya browsers I am aware of.
