It is a necessity that US take an active role in this conflict. The most important reason is the fact that the United States is a large donor to both Israelis and Palestinians. Much of this aid is needed due to the ongoing conflict - therefore, if a peaceful solution is not in the foreseeable future, the idea that this money is going towards any useful ends is purely in vain. As long as there is conflict, more moeny will be needed. If not for the sake of world politics, American's money alone is reason enough.
