Fact checking Dave Winer

It was pretty funny... I was reading Dave Winer's claim that all weblogs done in 1999 were done in Frontier. I said hmm... and went over to Flutterby, which I remember reading back in the day, and check it out. I also remembered reading lemon yellow, but that seems to have disappeared. Internet Alchemy too. And Honeyguide, which Dan from Flutterby links to.

Stupid bloody comment for him to make.
If a weblog is defined as a series of cronological posts to a single url, with older posts going into "archive" pages then many sites predate 1999, and certainly weren't created using Frontier. Where does his ego end?

You can view most of the contents of my old DemoNix site here: http://blogs.linux.ie/xeer/archives/cat/8
That site used to live at http://members.xoom.com/xeer/ and was quite popular then. There are entries going back to 1998, and I can post some of the original html pages to anyone who wants them..

My first posting to Larkfarm was on May 14, 1999. And I wouldn't touch Frontier with a stick with a condom on the end.

Most of the old "A-List" webloggers were online before me. And none of them were using Frontier.

Of course, Whiner appears to have removed that dose of horsepucky from his page in one of his typical revisionist moves. What a jackass.

No, still there...

Until RSS came along the only format people were using was HTML. RSS changed that." The funny thing is that it wasn't grandiose. At that time all weblogs were done in Frontier.

Was there something else there earlier that I missed? Smiley
