I'm looking for a C++ reference... if anyone can recommend a good one that's online I'd appreciate it. Or, if there are any good ones in book form that aren't expensive I'd like that too.

Do you have Scott Meyers' Effective & More Effective C++? They're pretty indepsensible guides to C++ weirdness. I think the publisher has a newer book in a similar style just for the STL, but I don't think Meyers is the author of that one.

I actually have the combined thingy on CD. I looked through it recently, but only for something specific. I definitely have to give it a more thorough read soon.
