My dog's bed is in my room under one of my windows. Sometimes when the window is open, my beagle perks up because she smells something wafting through the air over her head through the window. Often she sticks her head straight up in the air and catches scents as they fly by.
So yesterday morning at around 5:30am, I hear my dog stir from sleeping, and she sticks her head straight up in the air sniffing like I described. She then stood up on her hind legs and peered out the window. She rarely gets this excited, but then she started howling out the window! So, I go over to her, both to see what's up, and to clamp her mouth shut so she doesn't howl anymore.
It turns out there were two beautiful full-grown deer (with antlers and everything) right in my front yard. They stuck around for a while and I got to watch them. They probably would have stuck around a little longer if I had been able to keep my pooch from howling a few more times at them, but I'm glad for what I saw. Their tails had black middles with a white outline, and they were wagging them. They were really awesome looking.
Anyway, I've never had deer in my front yard like that. I've been hoping they haven't wound up as roadkill.
It was a great night experience. :-)
