VNC for Palm!

Via Matt, via nf0, I can't believe there's a freaking version of VNC for the Palm. That's amazing.

Cute doggie

Check out these cute doggie pictures.

But don't go to the root of that photo album. There are some crazy naked men, seriously, don't go.

Reading the Daily Python-URL with Syndirella

I noticed that the Daily Python-URL[1] claimed that EffNews was "the only RSS reader out there that can read the python daily-url ;-)". So I downloaded EffNews and checked it out and it did read it[2] But I wanted to see if I could read it with my RSS aggregator, Syndirella, which has a great customizable scraper[3]. Thankfully, the Daily Python-URL provides tons of extra HTML and comments which make it easy to pick out the date and description of an item. So I can now read the DPU with Syndirella. Rock on.

Update: Hey, look at that. Mark comments on the same thing re: EffNews

Footnotes:
[1]: On 1/16. Not only don't they have an RSS feed, they don't have permalinks either! Smiley frowning
[2]: They had custom regular expressions in Python set up to read the page
[3]: It could really be improved to support newlines, however

Weblogs.com speed-up

If Dave wants to speed up weblogs.com, he should just break the table up into multiple tables. Every 50 rows or so, maybe. You get the idea.

Easy to do, no major redesign, and it degrades gracefully Smiley winking. Try it out Dave.

State of the Union drinking game

Via Memepool, check out the State of the Union drinking game for 2003. It's funny.

Seasoned Teachers Leave Public Education in Droves

Via Oliver, Twilight Years or Twilight Zone:

Has the destruction of the American education system been done purposefully, or just out of widespread stupidity? There are theories, documented and well-supported, that lead one to believe that the results we work so hard to hold at bay, are exactly those which arrogant socialist planners want and strive to achieve. Our educational culture seeks the kind of teachers who believe that such 'social leveling' is best for us; for our America.

Oliver also links to The Underground History of American Education.

Immortal Code

Wired: Immortal Code

"But reusing pieces of code is like picking off sentences from other people's stories and trying to make a magazine article." It might make your point, but not very well.
