I used to be seriously interested in learning Perl - I got myself a copy of the Camel book and read it cover to cover, I ghacked around with scritps like newspro and I even wrote a few of my own. Then I discovered PHP, and realsied it was far easier and more productive for web scripting. Then I discovered Python, and found it far neater and less crufty for general purpose scripting. Now I can't really see any reason to learn Perl at all, although I'm looking forward to having a play with Perl 6 some time in the distant future.
