Tim Bray on offshoring:
It occurs to me that first of all, things that sound too good to be true usually are, and second, this kind of gross pricing anomaly cannot possibly survive in a connected global transparent market economy, which is more or less what we live in.
I've long been skeptical that all of America's programming/technical jobs are going to be farmed off to India.
I just got an e-mail from buy.com (who I've shopped with before, and have nothing against) and its subject began with "It's Not To Late". The rest of the subject was " - Gift Certificates - Special Offer". That the to/too error got through whatever editorial process they have really irks me. That error, as well as multiple capitalized words like that, rates high on my spam meter, and it's annoying. Buy.com's credibility was just hurt with me today.
In contrast, I got an e-mail from Amazon.com at the same time whose subject contained a real sentence without excessive capitalization.
Synopsis:
Synopsis is a general source code documentation tool. By means of a modular structure it adapts to different styles of embedded documentation, different programming languages and various output formats. It scales well with the size of the project by allowing processing to be controlled by Makefiles.
Added to my Documentation standards page.
Update: Also very nice is Natural Docs, via Martin
Oh my gosh, Simon has Beaker popping up on his web site! That's so cool.
He also links to a comprehensive list of Muppet characters.
First thing I'll do when I get a job is treat myself to The Best of the Muppet Show.
