Knoppix is cool. I've been playing with Adios lately, which is significant in that it's derived from Red Hat. This means that it might be possible to use RPMs on it, and eventually install Kylix, which is something that I would never be able to do using a Debian variant like Knoppix.
Adios also has a boot-menu option that lets you select from several options for using your hard drive in addition to the bootable CD. Anything from not at all to full image install.
Note that Adios is also a larger than normal CD image. I burned 3 coasters before getting it to work.

Ah, that would do it. Strangely, the last time I tried to burn Knoppix with it, the progress meter got to 100% and kept "writing" until I had to kill it. That's probably why.

Awesome, thanks. Now, if I only knew the keyboard= setting for dvorak. Ahh, this looks like it's it.

POS? :-) That seems a little harsh, I still have an old HP 8100i that has never written even a single coaster, but the standard Knoppix CD-image is larger than the maximum size supported by the 8100 CD-Writer, you can google for the exact limit but http://lists.debian.org/debian-user/2003/debian-user-200306/msg03952.html gives ballpark numbers. And yeah, Knoppix rocks.
