The newspapers and television paint a picture of doom and gloom and that we are having major problems over here. That is just not the case. The Iraqis have a saying about the situation over here "Every day is better than the day before".

Wow!

Read the whole thing, it's short and won't take more than a few minutes. Has American media always been about "doom and gloom", or is it only recently that the media have lost their optimism?

It isn't that they lost their optimism, it is that sex & violence sells to the American public. The worst they make Iraq seem to be, the more (they feel) that people will want to watch the news about it. It is like this will all news, not just reports on Iraq.

I personally hate it and would rather watch the news to see stories about people who are heroes and do good for the world rather than here about another murder in Baltimore (where I live).
