While I'm not all that interested in the whole Atom vs. RSS debate, one thing I have found interesting is that the competition is making both things better. It's free-market capitalism in action. Dave felt competition coming from the Atom space, so he decided to hand off RSS to a neutral third party, clarify parts of it, etc., and now he's been working on improving the MetaWeblog API since Atom intends to compete in that space as well. See, when there's competition, just about everybody benefits.
