The fan on my video card has been making noise. My system is still under parts warranty, so I called up Dell and said:
"Hi, if you look in your logs you'll see I contacted you months ago about the fan on my video card making noise. At the time I was e-mailed by one of your techs claiming my card doesn't have a fan (it does) who asked me to confirm. I let it drop at the time because my fan stopped making the noise. It's started up again and I'm not going to wait until my warranty runs out for my fan to stop working and my processor to die leaving me with a dead video card. Just to prove I'm not just trying to get a new card out of you I'd be happy to just take a new fan if you can do that and I'll install it myself, but if you can't I'll need a new video card."
Dell tech: "Did you try taking your card out and putting it back in?"
Me: "Well, I have an air canister, and I took the card out of my system, and when I manually spin the fan by blowing it with the air canister I can hear the noise."
DT: "Good enough for me."
So I'm getting a new card shipped out tomorrow. It's a shame they have to waste a whole new card that costs who knows how much rather than just being able to send me a fan that costs a few cents.
Quoth my brother: "That's not possible!"
