The great dividing line between success and failure can be expressed in five words: "I did not have time." – WestHost weekly newsletter 14 Feb 2003

Links of the day

I'm running out of time again, and I have to do a paper tonight. You know what that means! All the links of the day in one big honkin' post. BTW, when I do this, if any part of the post turns out to have enough stuff about it to make it into its own post, I usually separate it out.

Dive Into Mark: Syndication is not publication.

Whoa, Slashdot: Spirited Away Still Has a Chance. I've beet trying to get a chance to go into the city to see it (since that's the only place it's playing). Hopefully this means it has a chance of coming somewhere local.

Slashdot: Square To Merge With Enix.

The makers of the 'Final Fantasy' video game series will be merging with the makers of the 'Dragon Quest' series to produce an RPG powerhouse to be re-named Enix Square Co.

Dragon Warrior (what they call Dragon Quest here in the States) was my favorite series of role playing games as a kid.

This goes on my reading list, via this thread at Slashdot.

Via PHP Everywhere, an Interview with Bard Farstad of eZ systems.

Bard Farstad is the lead developer at eZ systems, the company behind eZ publish. As a PHP developer from a C++ background, he's pretty much done all there is to do with PHP. For this 25 year old programmer from Skien, Norway, coordinating an international development team and turning an Open Source software project into an enterprise-level commercial success was just a matter of adjusting his stride. Aside from the computer keyboard he's also a master of the guitar fret board. Ask him nicely and he might send you his band's latest single on mp3...

Following SitePoint's eZ publish series, I got in touch with Bard to find out more about life at eZ systems, his plans for eZ publish, and his insights on developing online with PHP.

Shoot, there was more, but stupid Mozilla just crashed on me. I want the 1.2 milestone to come out so I can use something stable again Smiley

Here's some anecdotal dross in favor of XmlRpc.

FedEx and UPS really should have web services available.

Hey, look at that, Mozilla 1.2 was just released (see release notes). Their roadmap has also been updated.

Angel news:

Charisma Carpenter is pregnant:

Charisma does say that as she enters her sixth month of pregnancy, she's feeling fine and is eager to keep working. "As far as I'm concerned, barring any health restrictions, my water could break on the set."

Angel moves to Wednesday to fill Birds of Prey's time slot. Yay!

Understanding Nigeria. And this makes me glad we have free speech (tm) here. Crazies.

Via James, neat comments on Java vs. C#.

Great, an explanation of when HTTP_RAW_POST_DATA is populated in PHP 4.3.

Also, PHPBuilder: Replacing Perl Scripts with PHP Scripts.

Via Scott, Simplelinks goes in the RSS aggregator.

Now watching IRAQ - Truth and Lies in Baghdad, via Ordinary Life. Ok, that was fascinating. It's worth the time.

Postscript: When I used the word "crazies" above in reference to the Nigerian situation, I didn't mean it literally. Recently, someone said to me "You have to admit that anyone who murders someone has to be at least partially insane" (something to that effect). I said "No, you can't say that, that relieves them from responsibility for their actions." When he pushed the point I said, "You can't just dismiss them as insane, because that denies the reality of evil." At that point he said "You're right".

Angel moving to Wed. isn't such a hot thing. It's up against tough shows. I think it will survive though.

Btw, I'm going to make a guess and figure you for a Farscape fan?

When you said "dross" and If memory serves "frelling" I remembered those are common swears used on farscape to get past sensors, which is why I suspected.

Farscapes a good show that got cancelled for bad reasons, IE no money. I recommend you snag a few seasons at Blockbuster.
