I'VE WORKED WITH FLASH for several years and have always been slightly dissatisfied with the markup needed to embed a movie in web pages. When I recently published a site in XHTML, my dissatisfaction with the markup grew as I realized that it simply wasn't valid in this context and was bloating my pages to unacceptable levels. A leaner, standards-compliant method of embedding Flash movies was called for.
While watching Firefly yesterday, everyone in the cast kept saying strange things - my brain would try to parse it and couldn't, and they offered no translation, so I was like "what the BLOODY HELL?". I figured it was some strange futuristic language, or some slang in the future that they made up.
Turns out it was Chinese - via WHEDONesque.
Oh yeah, BTW, Firefly keeps getting better every episode.

Well, except maybe putting the military on the borders. I'm just not sure if that's the role of the military. I don't know enough either way. However, it does seem to make sense to use the military rather than hiring a whole bunch of other people (who?) who would do the same job. It certainly is a national security issue, so it would seem to fall under the military's jurisdiction too. I'd like to see this all integrated under the Homeland Security bill that we may finally be able to get passed soon.
