Inluminent/weblog: Things Owners Should Never Say to Employees. This type of stuff sounds so familiar it's funny. Except about the forged memo, never heard one like that before.
The company doesn't have a plan (to wipe its ass with) at all, and he's been pushing for one from the owners for about 2 years now. He's gotten no where. When he brought this up to one of the owners yet again, her response was too telling: "Relax man, it's just a job." That's the worst thing an owner of a company can tell an employee. Period.
"It's just a job?"
What does that tell you?
Told me it was time to find a new job... so I did.
Yaaaay! That's so awesome. (I've been there)
Review of Kylix 3 at Newsforge.
And yes the IDEs and compiled applications run equally well under both Gnome and KDE.
The article also referenced the Zeos library, which I'm not (yet) familiar with.
Via WHEDONesque, how the Breeders got on Buffy. So that's who that band was!
I should read about what the heck UDDI is.
TBL on the radio.
Some security holes were actually found in Mozilla, but Lo!, they had already been fixed. Also, new Mozilla forums.
use Perl:
Allison Randal's Tagmemics talk [PDF] is available in Quicktime format from perl.org. Look for mp3 soon. Thanks to David Wheeler for recording it and Elaine Ashton for converting it to Quicktime.
Brent finally got his domains transferred from Verisign
I hope that's the end of it. It's certainly the last dealings I will ever have with Verisign. I've never seen such slimy prevarication and wholesale incompetence.
The biggest lesson in all of this (besides the obvious one - get all your domains out of there as soon as you can) is that whenever possible, you should hang on to any email addresses that you ever had associated with any NetSol account until you are certain that you will never have to deal with them again. And pay complete attention at every step in the process or you'll fall into one of their traps apparently designed to get you to throw up your hands and just stay with them because it's too much of a hassle to leave.
A few things seen on Slashdot:
Neat defense news. This type of stuff is some of the most important stuff to our national security. Also from the BBC via Matt.
So XDocs is supposed to be a PDF killer?
LOTR CGI info.
LWN has a searh engine.
revjim is putting together the pieces for his RSS aggregator
Neat comments on IMAP from Diego.
Via The FuzzyBlog!, Drupal has screenshots. Unfortunately, a whole bunch of them don't work, either because they've been deleted, or because there are some permissions problems. Drupal has been the system I've been most jealous of impressed by while developing my CMS.
I don't believe that Java is faster than C. It'd be very interesting to be proven wrong, but I won't believe it until I see it for myself.
What's this about a web server in Lua?
Via Matt, a CMS I haven't heard of, MySource.
I keep hearing that Romney won in Massachusetts (awesome), but I haven't seen the numbers. I also haven't heard anything about who won between Sumers and Garrett in my district. And where can I get one of these??
Hey!
Don't trust those benchmarks. For a start, they don't mention which port of GCC they used. There's other reasons to be pretty sceptical, but I was up all last night doing projects and I've a feeling I'm going to fall asleep in my next lecture! :o)
I've had an awfully hectic two weeks.
I finally got through all my email too, but I haven't got around to sending reply to any of them yet. But I'll say this much right now - you do know I'm Irish, right?
