Mind Bombs?

You know how there are those books that change the way you think forever? I've had two of those in my life... I want more! There have to be books out there that will challenge me - make me think about things I haven't thought about before. Or teach me things I don't yet know.

I have been looking for books and ideas like this for years, ever since just after my early days on the net. The last Mind Bomb for me was learning HTML. Since then everything seems to be either too complicated or too much of a fad to bother with. Maybe I am just plain lazy. Ok, well I know I am, but not that lazy.

"Animal Liberation" by Peter Singer... for starters.
Enjoy.
Do you actually read these comments, Keith?

Yes, I actually read these comments. Each comment gets put at the top of the list on the right of the homepage, and more importantly, I get e-mailed whenever anyone leaves a comment. It's like I'm automatically subscribed to every entry Smiley

Geek, I'm not talking about technical "mind bombs"... maybe Mind Bomb was the wrong term to use Smiley I used it because that's the term Dave Winer always uses, but he usually applies it to technical things (like a new feature in Radio Smiley, so maybe it carried the wrong connotation.

Rather, I'm talking about more philosophical mind bombs. The two books I've read which have most changed my thinking have been Not a Chance, by R.C. Sproul, and Van Til's Apologetic, Readings and Analysis, by Greg Bahnsen.

I know the book I'm Ok, You're Ok was a similar mind bomb for some people, and Ishmael, by Daniel Quinn as well as The Celestine Prophesy also had similar effects on people.

Right now I think I'm looking for something psychological or sociological, having to do with communication. I remember Dr. Cornish (was that his name?) at my high school once said that because he had studied in those areas, he was aware of different types of responses that are available to you when talking to people, which most people don't even know about.

However, the point about Mind Bombs like these is that you often don't see them coming, and sometimes they'll only affect you in a certain way at a certain point in your life. You really don't have much control over the phenomenon... so I'd be willing to take any suggestions Smiley

Is it not possible to have mind bombs of many types? I mean for me, HTML was a new way of looking at text. that was an amazing new thing for me, since I had only dealt with Word and notepad for my text, and to go from plain text and Word, only useable on Windows, to being able to use tags and formatting that are viewable on any computer that can access them. For me, that was as revolutionary as the current idea of mid east peace.
