By the way, I saw the Royal Tenenbaums when I was down visiting Justin, and it sucked.
I just merged my "Useful Stuff" page with my links page. There's an explanation on the links page - "the prior distinction was artificial".
Also, thanks to Hosting Matters being awesome, I've finally transferref my prorege.net domain off of MMT's servers. Now maybe I can do something with it.
I knew Amazon would do it. News.com: Amazon posts its first net profit. "In a fourth quarter marked by strong international sales and cost cutting, Amazon.com on Tuesday reported its first-ever net profit, on record sales, delivering on its promises to Wall Street." Jeez, "Fourth-quarter sales were $1.12 billion, compared with $972 million a year ago." I wonder if the other major "e-retailer" I use, Buy.com, is making a profit yet.
Wow, and thanks to cutting costs, among other things, by switching to Linux, "Amazon said it will provide a new class of shipping dubbed "Super Saver Shipping," which will offer free delivery for orders over $99. With the new policy, the company is making a standard practice of its usual holiday-season promotion" though "Super Saver Shipping may add three to five days to delivery times." boo.
Via NewsMax.com, NY Post: SECRET PLAN TO TOPPLE SADDAM: "U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell and Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld are finalizing a strategy based on building an international military coalition, sponsoring Iraqi freedom fighters, and having the United States lead a military invasion, Newsweek is reporting, quoting a Bush administration adviser. Under the strategy, the United States will continue pressuring Saddam to re-admit U.N. arms inspectors into Iraq, rather than launching a military attack "tomorrow or unilaterally," the adviser said."
A little bit about evolution. "There is scientific dissent to Darwinism.".
Also, The Science of Dissent (I like the pun "In a six-page "Position Paper on the Teaching of Evolution," LeVake pledges to teach evolution while also taking "an honest look at the difficulties and inconsistencies of the theory." He lists examples of irreducible complexity in nature for which, he says, Darwin has no explanation, such as the eggshell and the woodpecker's tongue. LeVake cites "the amazing lack of transitional forms in the fossil record. There has never been a creature discovered that could be considered a logical intermediate of any two major classes of animals or plants."
There are a lot of broken links on this page, but the info is still interesting. How could the woodpecker's tongue have evolved gradually?
