Riley's back on Buffy!
So that was the surprise!!! Riley got married!
Damnit! Blogstart used to be some site about weblogs... I was just updating my links, and it turns out it's now a porn site. I was linking to porn! I apologize to anyone who came across this by accident.
Hey, in case you notice some funky stuff going on, I'm doing a little reorganization. It'll be over soon, and if any pages don't work, just reload in 15 seconds and it should be fixed.
Ok, done reorganizing. I've finally made my site compliant with rule 2, because "some URLs are better than others".
Darn, turns out I left some broken links laying around. They should be fixed now. My site e-mails me whenever someone hits a broken link
If anyone does a lot of web-based programming, please help.
You know how on real e-commerce sites like Amazon you can go back and forth in your browser, even after you've submitted a form? How do they do that? I usually get "page expired" messages for my own code in certain circumstances. Do they just enable a high level of caching, or do they structure their site differently?
Also, what algorithm do you use to validate credit card numbers? I know there are complicated checks you can do, but all I'm sure about now is that they have to be numeric and at least 16 characters. I know each credit card company has their own prefix (Discover cards start with 6, MasterCards start with 5, Visa's start with 4, etc.), but is there any documentation from the companies explaining their numbering scheme?
An excellent point by Dave Winer. "One of the advantages the pros are supposed to have over amateurs is the time and skills they have to carefully research a topic. According to the legend, weblog people shoot from the hip, there's no time to research. This is an incorrect idea. In fact the best webloggers are domain experts. They spend their whole professional lives gathering knowledge and experience in their fields of expertise."
Hey, Xkot discovers Joel's most recent article. Joel tells it like it really is. All you CS kids who have never had a real job and want to know what the working world is like, read Joel to get a taste.
Meg on the recent "spate" of "news" articles that have been written about weblogs. "Of especial disappointment to me is the Times' piece asking whether blogging is just another fad, not because I'm afraid of the answer but because I think the question is so meaningless." Meg seems really cool. Who is she? I've known her as the megnut from time to time, but I don't know much about her.
