There's been a whole bunch of discussion over the past few days on CSS. A lot of it is centered on Dave's site, where he asks: Are Tables Really Evil? (Lot's of links there to discussion). Mark Pilgrim says the reason is accessibility. David Kurtz says "it's just the way it's supposed to be" and it makes the design of a lot of things easier. Brent Simmons says "It’s nothing more or less than separating form from content. It’s irresistible (for me) for the exact same reason a CMS is irresistible—it makes it much easier to maintain a site."
I think the whole thing may have started on the Scripting News on the 12th (maybe on the 11th?), which is when I looked into redoing my design in CSS. The redesign failed because I couldn't reproduce exactly what I have now in pure CSS without tables. I think I'm going to e-mail Mark Pilgrim
