And if you go too far up, abstraction-wise, you run out of oxygen. Sometimes smart thinkers just don't... – Joel Spolsky

The non-rational response

Man, I just saw this beautiful girl at Houston's in the Riverside mall. She was one of the hostesses there. She had the kind of eyes that get squinty and light up when she smiles, sort of like Jennifer Love Hewitt's do, with great eyelashes too. She had this cute nose, not thin and Arian, but not big either. She was short and thin, and seemed like a happy person. Non-rational, I hate it.

Titles for my blog?

I'm thinking of adding titles for my blog entries. I have to go and see how titles fit into other people's blogs.

There's been a whole bunch of discussion over the past few days on CSS. A lot of it is centered on Dave's site, where he asks: Are Tables Really Evil? (Lot's of links there to discussion). Mark Pilgrim says the reason is accessibility. David Kurtz says "it's just the way it's supposed to be" and it makes the design of a lot of things easier. Brent Simmons says "It’s nothing more or less than separating form from content. It’s irresistible (for me) for the exact same reason a CMS is irresistible—it makes it much easier to maintain a site."

I think the whole thing may have started on the Scripting News on the 12th (maybe on the 11th?), which is when I looked into redoing my design in CSS. The redesign failed because I couldn't reproduce exactly what I have now in pure CSS without tables. I think I'm going to e-mail Mark Pilgrim Smiley

Via Slashdot, an interesting interview with Alan Cox.

itwales.com: The Linux OS is renowned for being stable, fast and virtually virus-immune. How have you achieved this?

Alan: Open development. People have spent ten years looking over each other's code able to refine the existing code and to spot security holes. The same process of peer review that ensures university research quality and that bridges don’t fall down has simply been applied to software, which as an engineering discipline should always have been the case.

Which is Better? Whoa, evolution is better than creationism! I should have known!

It's right though, farts are better than burps. Though I thought "The Internet" would be a little more even handed on the VI vs Emacs issue.

Unfortunately, the site keeps messing up and sometimes gives 100% to one and 0% to the other, or 0% to both... the Internet is a little flaky Smiley

Zopera: Jim Fulton Interview.

ZT : How many employees are there in Zope Corp now ?
JF : 27, most of whom are engineers.
ZT : How many of them are working on Zope core ?
JF : All of the engineers.
ZT : and how many working as consultant for your direct customers ?
JF : All of the engineers.

Really, the best way to improve a tool is to apply it. Certainly not everything we do for a customer goes into the core, but we often improve the core to make Zope work work better for customers.

This is hillarious. Via Xkot, "If you have RealPlayer... you can watch Shaq spanking Jack Black from Tenacious D. It doesn't get much stranger than that, folks." I thought Tenacious D already had an album? How old is this interview?
