I didn't know Jews celebrated Christmas.

Well, some Jews celebrate Christmas just for the fun of it. More conservative Jews don't, but a some liberal Jews even have trees and give presents and everything just because it's fun.

But the joke about the Chinese food is that since we're Jews and don't really celebrate Christmas, we get take-out from other people who (probably) don't celebrate Christmas. I think maybe it's something of an unspoken tradition.

I am jewish, and that is exactly what me and my family do on christmas.

Well there's a pretty obvious reason for this: Chinese is one of the few restaurants open since virtually all the staff is chinese (ever see a Mexican waiter in a Chinese restaurant?) and they don't take the holiday off. So why not be open?
