Hearty agreements with Mr. Bean on the Logtitech or MS mouse. NEVER buy from thinkgeek. They tend to have high prices.

Yeah. Thinkgeek is a great site, but overpriced. I only order from them if they have something I want that I can't find anywhere else.

You should go out to the store and try one to see how it feels... personally, I'd suggest either one of Microsoft's offerings, or Logitech's... but a mouse is a very personal thing, especially to a programmer, and you don't want to buy something online that you won't be happy using for hours on end every day.
Me, personally, I'm really picky about the way the scroll wheel works, and up until recently I've been very upset with every single scroll wheel I've used (just 'felt' wrong) except for the one on the mouse I ended up getting: the Microsoft Intellimouse Optical, I've had it since early 2000, so I'm sure they have lots of newer models out. However, Logitech has recently impressed me by improving the quality of their mice, and I would consider them strongly for my next mouse purchase. Of course, after using MS's mouse, which has the standard 3 buttons in addition to two side buttons (making 5 buttons total) that allow you to go back/forward in the browser, or page through a document in MS Word, etc... I can barely use a computer without that funcionality on my mouse
My point? You really need to go to a store that has a bunch of these things on display and fiddle with them until you find one you like and think you won't mind using for years down the line.
