What an exciting day!

It's such an exciting day! Iraqis are free! 20 fucking days. They're holding up pictures of Bush and giving thumbs up. I heard that people had a sign saying "Human shields go home!"

This is why I was impatient for the war to start. I knew this day would come... waited months and months in dealing with the U.N. for basically nothing to get done, and then we go and do what needed to be done in less than three weeks. People wanted a quagmire... the UN was the quagmire.

We got out of this without chemical weapons being used, without many oil fields being lit on fire, without an increase in terrorist attacks as was predicted by naysayers, without attacks against Israel, without oil being spilled into the sea, and have you noticed how quiet North Korea has been?

Bravo to our military and our president, and congrats to the Iraqi people.

Well now anonymous, allow me to explain the obvious: if Iraq's military stores weapons in hospitals, schools, & residential areas, and if their soldiers hide behind women and children while firing on U.S. soldier's, don't you think that civilian deaths have more to do with Sadam and his gutless generals, and little to do with the U.S.? I'm sure you won't let logic get in your way, but there you go anyway...

I wouldn't exactly call the war particularly successful. The Americans killed more British than the Iraqis did. No weapons of mass destruction were found. Saddam has not been killed (at least, as far as anybody knows). There's mass criticism over US conduct towards civilians, and even more accusations about murdering journalists that aren't "US approved".

Have the allied forces shattered Iraqi resistance? Yes. Did they perform well? No. Have they pissed off a hell of a lot of people in the process? Yes. Was this a good idea? No.

Sigh. Continue to live in your little fantasy world. No rational arguments seem likely to penetrate your shield of denial.

A few words:

Did the soldiers perform well? You must be reading the NY Times. Fucking three weeks man. We killed 1000 of them for every one they killed of us. By every measure this seems to be one of the most successful military campaigns in history. But what am I saying... your grasp of history is probably about as strong as your grasp of logic. I'll stop now.

In reply to keith's huh, you said that their weren't any attacks against israel. I was making the point that it didn't stop israel attacking other people. Even if the other people where hammas leaders. They assassinated a hammas leader about 2 days ago, but it wasn't in the news as the only news is war these days.
I just thought I'd mention it

What, you have a problem with Israel killing terrorists? And what does this even have to do with Iraq?

What's with your bias against Israel?

BTW, it's "Hamas".

As far as the nuclear facility goes, you'll forgive me if I wait a few days to be sure it isn't fertiliser, won't you?

About the journalists: I think that there were so many eyewitnesses that don't agree with that account, I'll wait for the investigation before making my own mind up - which is more than a lot of people will do.

Please don't include me in your nytimes moans.

As for the 1000:1 ratio (which you haven't backed up btw), what do you expect? They gave up most of their weaponry over the last decade or so, they were being bombarded with missiles, and they were hopelessly outgunned. I would have expected far less fuckups (read: killing so many allies and civilians) considering we were in such a better position.

Please point out any flaws in my logic you see.

Weirdo? Keith, and everyone else actually, what the hell is going on here? Stop the name-calling and try to learn something from each other. Keith, the 'you're such a loser' and 'your grasp of history...' comments are uncalled for--if you feel you have a more accurate viewpoint of what's going on over there (and here), share some more facts with this anonymous kid, share why you believe what you believe (he might not be an avid reader of your site); show him some respect--most people might not be as smart as you areSmiley. I know that you see the ousting of Saddam, the disarmament of Iraq and the liberation of its people as something that just must be done--I'm not disagreeing with you on any of those points here--I've noticed that you've begun to feel very deeply about this as well (just an indication of how right you think you are; not something that's good/bad/right/wrong in itself)--it has, however, bothered me somewhat that some of your posts recently have taken on a slightly sanctimonious flavor. I know you get frustrated when people don't see things that seem obvious to you--might want to just tone it down a bit. Let me know if you think I'm off-point.

Well, I just thought I'd mention my Hammas (or Hamas, I've seen them both, as it's an arabic transliteration no-one seems to care) assasination story. You just seemed rather happy, and I can't bare to see a right winger happy Smiley. Although in retrospect I can't see how it would make you unhappy.
Anyway, I'm not really that bothered about assasinating terrorist leaders, I mean if you are gonna assasinate anyone, they seem like the people to assasinate.
And I have an anti-israeli foreign policy bias because I just think they're plain wrong. But that's for another time...
